A Few New Reelfoot Calls
« on: March 16, 2018, 02:51:57 PM »
Wanted to post some new Reelfoot calls I finished.

These are all stabilized woods (except for the crosscut tigerwood) with African Blackwood for the toneboards. I used acrylic accents in each to highlight the transitions. I built them using Benny's method for cutting the toneboard and my hand method for cutting the tonechannel. CA finish on each of them. Hand cut brass bands, all pinned in place.

First call is crosscut tigerwood.

There's a duck call in that block of wood. I just have to find it!

Next up is multiple dyed Ash burl. Really pretty blank. My poor photography does not do this one justice. I filled voids on this one for a day or two before final finishing, and it still has some imperfections in the finish.

And finally curly poplar dyed black and then green. This call went together like butter. Smooth to finish.

All these calls have .008 phosphor bronze reeds in them. I was really happy that they all ran well right from the start. I guess I'm getting better at making the reeds (I still hand cut them from a master blank).

Reelfoot, the original duck call. What's on your lanyard?

Thanks much everyone. These were really fun. One call each for a father and his twin sons. They each picked the blanks and then delivered them to me in person. Was a lot of fun talking to them about their first Reelfoot hunt!

I hope they enjoy the calls. (to be shipped in a couple weeks when I finish one more call for the father).
