RED SLATE ISSUES
« on: February 18, 2018, 08:15:58 AM »
Need some advice I purchased a dozen Red Slate 3 1/2" sizes and turned a few pots I did one in Zebrawood over glass and sounds good, then I turned one in Paduak and it was like night and day with the sound Bad is putting it mildly. All my measurements were the same it was a slate over glass so it sounded like a kee kee call or worse!! I decided to open it up and replace the glass with a 3 in. slate as a soundboard well that helped some but now it was a combo of flat and high pitch, still Bad. So i turned another pot in Paduak and change the side walls and bottom thickness adding more wood to both well it was better but not a hit,but better than the first pot. I would love to get this Red Slate on a Paduak but I'm at a lose what could be causing the bad sounds so i ask can anyone help me before i ruin more wood. Thanks.

Try a harder or heavier striker before you give up.
