HS Strut Triple Glass rebuild, need input.
« on: January 19, 2018, 06:23:47 PM »
Ok, my turkey hunting buddy Eric, asked if I could repair this call.  He's had it along time,
And is one of his favorites.  My plan is to make a new pot out of walnut or cherry, and duplicate
Everything as close as I can from the old plastic one.  The input I'm looking for is opinions
On the glue.  I use E6000.  Looks like this call appears to have used black silicone.  When you
Pull on some of it, it stretches just like a rubber band.  Do you think using silicone was used
Because of cost? Or because it works well with the plastic pot?  Should I use it on the new
Wood pot? or use what I normally use, the trustworthy E6000?

I'd say use the E6000.  The difference shouldnt be extreme and you can always take it apart and try silicone

From past experience,  pulling apart a call glued with either goop or e6000 is a real pain in the arse.  Once I glue this up, my hopes is not to have to pull it apart to try a different glue.

Well, I finished up Eric ' s call.  I even went as far as buying a new one I found on Amazon,
Just for sound comparison.  I'll admit it, I Iike the sound out of mine better.  They are close,  But in all honesty, mine has better top end, better roll over, and much better purrs.  I think it was  A BIG success!

I like the way you duplicated the shape of the pot Scott. Nice!

Thanks.  The whole idea about this was to try and not change a thing, except the
Broken pot.  In hopes of retaining the original sound.  Which was pretty close.
