Pot call blanks
« on: December 19, 2017, 05:33:49 PM »
Who do you guys get your pot call blanks from? I have been cutting my own out of 1” lumber but wonder if it would be more efficient to just buy the blanks? Do they run expensive?

Lumber is usually a much cheaper option. Blanks are best when you are looking for fancier wood, when you don't want to spend big money on big boards.

i would say stick with buying lumber in the end its much cheaper to cut your own blanks ,, think about it most wood is sold by board foot take walnut going rate for it is any where from $5 to 8 a BF  dry ,,, by a blank its at least $ 1 blank    thats  $ 12 a bf your paying now
exotics  same thing if buying boards off the web get with seller and see if theirs a cheaper shipping method some thing long going ups  maybe able be cut in half to ship flat rate

if i got the funds i would rather spend $100  in wood to save $40 in the long run plus sometimes its better to fill a box make shipping cheaper per blank

burls well its what your willing pay and if u can get your money back out them ,,,,,

IMO wood prices are getting crazy anymore (burls and exotics even home grown wood )  even from a year ago

I'm curious where everyone buys their lumber online.  I've been trolling ebay for quite some time, but it takes a lot of looking to find anything at a good price.

Do you have a Woodcraft or a Klingspor store anywhere near you?

I used to buy a lot of 1 x 4 exotic lumber off of ebay, but the seller quit selling on Ebay.  I buy most of mine at Woodcraft now.

Unless you just like to turn:

If you really want fancy then buy the wood and turn. E Bay has some beautiful wood.

I buy from different suppliers. I also pour poly  resin blanks. Bell Forest is a good place to buy exotic blanks.
