i have tried using shot screnges, smaller tubes of glue with smaller ends, it just seems to be too much.

Its not a pretty process. Frosting that ouside edge of the glass has been the best look I have seen. One of the reasons I won't sell a glass top call. All the hard work, and the glue looks like crap.

sand the whole glass playing surface with 100 so you also can run the call anywhere on the glass that's how I make them

Small applicator, patience and continue to work toward getting the perfect bead.

i turned a few calls today, and made my lip a little longer, will the distance between the lip and sound board matter, looks like about a toothpick width there?

Buy E6000 with the small tipped end.  I apply glue directly with the tip.  Key is take your time and don't squeeze the tube.  Let it come out on its own, keeping your glue hand still and rotate the pot with the other had.  I like using the kitchen table with a soft cloth, and a pot blank under my glue hand for a little added elevation. Light is very helpful to see and monitor your progress.  Bead of glue should be pretty small.  The more you use, the more spooges out.  Try to keep the bead on the outside of center on the ledge.  Practice makes perfect.  Even I get a little too much now and then.
