Elk guts?

(1/2) > >>

C Ciuffetelli:
Hi all,

I'm interested in making some elk calls for an up and coming elk hunt and I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were of the elk guts sold through the forum store? Or if there are better guts that can be purchased elsewhere?

Thanks,

VECtor Calls:
They work great. I prefer to fit them to my barrel better using this tutorial.

And some of the information in this thread to help it go easier with the thinner elk guts:

And I like to add some tubing to the bite part to keep more consistent pressure on the toneboards.

I would also suggest looking into some open reed toneboards for a greatly variable cow elk caller.

Thanks for the tips! I did an online search and could not find any info on open reed cow guts. Any suggestions where I would be able to purchase some?

Thanks,

This is the #1 open reed setup I like personally. The board will need to be smoothed up some and the reed cutting is a little rough so you will want to own some extremely sharp scissors to get everything to fit perfect (the cut reed is not a simple straight cut, it fits in the molding of the two toneboard parts).

Also, he ships from Alaska, so his shipping may be a little more.

Sorry for the late reply.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will check em out!
