Just letting you know straight up about the amount of useful responses coming your way.

You are asking about the Holy Grail of turkey call making secrets. Marvin took a TON of heat for making that tutorial. So, your best bet is going to be asking specific questions on your issues as you go, or find someone to teach you the ways.

I may be surprised, but I doubt many folks come out of woodwork to lay down many more trumpet secrets than have already been shared on this forum.

When I turn mine.....

I turn my stock round fist.  Usually start with a 6 inch 1"x1'"

Then I chuck the dowel I have turned in my 4 jaw chuck, and start with a 1/2" bit, drilling about 1/3 of the way through the length. you can then use a stepped drill bit or a parting tool to flare the "bell" of the trumpet before continuing the drilling process. Then I step it down to a 3/8" and drill another 1/3 of the way through, and finally finish up with a 1/4" and drill the rest of the way through.  the mouth pieces I turn are 1/4" and fit into this end when I am finished turning.

I then mount it on a 1/2" expanding mandrel to finish turning.

I use a conical drill bit to flare the bell end of the call.

Or for your first trumpet you can just buy a mouthpiece.
