My advice, buy a little better chuck from either "Nova" or PSI that tightens with a Key. I started with an economy chuck from Nova and quickly found that the tommy bars (to tighten) did not work well. It takes both hands to tighten the chuck with the bars, with the key you only need one.

I do like that nova G3.  Will my insert from the psi collet kit fit it?

No it will not. Here is a list of the available inserts. They screw directly into the back of any Nova G3 chuck.

reason i asked is i use a small shop fox lathe now and am using the adaptor piece..  just don't want to buy anything that isn't going to work.

Screwing an adapter into another adapter is just asking for runout in the chuck. I would only do that if an adapter that screws directly into the chuck is not available to fit the lathe spindle.
Also look at the Super Nova2 chuck. They are on sale now and the chuck mechanism is fully enclosed. I have 2 and can recommend them.
Check ebay for the best price. You can get the adapter there also.
