Tried using veneer
« on: February 20, 2017, 04:16:34 PM »
I have a box of small veneers that I have had for a long time and thought I would try something.  I got 3 pieces of curly walnut (I think), hand cut them to fit on the bottom of a cherry pot and glued them in.  Sealed the seems with sawdust and thin CA and then began to sand it. Turned out kinda neat, but not like I had hoped as far as being smooth.  Wondering if anyone else has ever tried this and gotten better results?  I like the contrast and I'm not giving up on the idea, but definitely need to fix the process.  Thanks for looking.

Not sure, but the beginning to one idea might be to put a piece of glass over the veneer? It would cover up the sound holes though... Might have to custom fit it... Maybe put veneer on top with glass playing surface over it? How thick is the veneer?

It's very thin.  Easily cut with a pair of scissors.
