Chuck question
« on: February 14, 2017, 09:00:31 AM »
Hello everyone. looking at getting a chuck for my lathe. looking at the nova G3 only because I can buy a different adapter for it. My lathe is 7/8" 14tpi. it is an old lathe that I bought off of craigslist, Something to start me out. I have turned a good amount of barrels for calls off of it. Looking at starting to make inserts now, well I cant use my 5/8" mandrel that I use for turning the barrels. So I am leaning towards the nova G3 4 jaw chuck. My question is can it go down to turn 1.5"x1.5"? or do I need to buy new faceplates? any help is appreciated thanks guys

Turn the insert blank round ,between centers, first. Then you have options. A collet chuck will be the most accurate solution. A NOVA G3 will work. Here are links to  tutorials that shows how. Buy the G3 jaws to fit the round blank or just buy dowels to start with.,1531.0.html,1530.0.html
