first duck call
« on: January 11, 2017, 08:00:17 AM »
Turned my first call.  I used birdseye maple for it, mostly because it is fairly cheap and i expected it not to go very well.  I know it doesn't have a band but the area where the band goes is the same size as my Echo DRT if i decide to add one later.  The only reason it doesn't have one is I don't have any to put on it yet.  It looks ok in my opinion, but doesn't work.  maybe better luck on the next tone board.

Congrats on your first call.  Keep that one forever.  It'll be good to look back on in the next few years to see where you've come from.

Also, if you paste in the IMG link from photobucket your images will appear in the forum posts.

It doesn't make noise yet :(
Kind of sounds like the reed hits the top of barrel and that is it.  I'm going to fiddle with it some more this evening and see if I can make it a working call.

I was educated and know where... one of many places I messed up.
For starters I drilled all the way through the insert.  So the is a channel at front and not flat to make reed capture air to do its job

I have found that saw dust and glue make a good material to fill in, modify, a bad tone channel. You don't have to make a new insert every time to experiment with!
