Pepper mills for Christmas presents
« on: January 01, 2017, 03:18:04 PM »

I had a wild hair to make some of these this year. I never had made one before, but had the kits to make them for a few years and was waiting for the right time. Well this was the year.

A couple of years ago, I cut off a growth on the side of a maple tree. I was hoping it was a burl, but it wasn't. But it was full of curl and twisted grain. It was finally dry, so I found a good piece and started on making this pepper mill set.

I also had some cedar from the family farm that I had Mel stabilize for me.

They were fun to make. But I enjoy making calls a lot more than these.

You won't get money rich in this hobby.  The richness is in the culture, the craft, the friends you meet along the way, and being able to call in a wary game animal with a call that you made with your own hands.

They turned out great!  Hope they get years of use for their new owners!
