Here is a larger than original size Oscar Quam style. Maple with Aqua Fortis stain and Cocobolo insert.  Enjoy!

Beautiful call Fred. Great wood, and I love the lamination.
There's a duck call in that block of wood. I just have to find it!

Ben gave us a tutorial on one way to make the barrel:

http://thogamecallsforums.com/index.php/topic,13242.0.html

I cut mine on the mill using a dividing head and expanding mandrel. I think I have pictures somewhere. I will look!

And to make a metal reed just change the size of bore and follow other tutorial's on the board.

Hey, I remember that tutorial now!!  Been too long since I dug through the older posts.  Thanks for throwing it back out there, Fred.

I would still like to see your pictures, Fred.  I love seeing how other guys make calls.  One of my favorite things about this forum!

Here are the pictures of my setup to make the Quam style call barrel. The dividing head is a cheap Chinese import with a 1 degree index capability. The index head takes a 5C collet and I have one of Wade's 3/4 inch expanding mandrels mounted to hold the barrel blank. I have machined the sides of the dividing head base to allow it to be clamped in the milling machine vise. A wooden wedge is used to set the index head base angle (which sets the taper of the barrel).

Very cool setup, Fred.  Thanks for sharing.  I've never seen a milling machine in operation but, based on the pics you've shared, I think I get the idea.  You've got me thinking about how I could use one of those dividing heads for my fluted calls...

I have cut flutes with the dividing head James. It makes the job real easy! I just use a round nose milling cutter.
