Finishing stabilized calls
« on: September 21, 2016, 08:50:33 AM »
Before I try to stabilize any blanks I have several questions about what to use to finish the calls? Can you use Spar Varnish, Oil or CA? Is there a type of finish to stay away from?
Thanks for your help.
Danny

I haven't came across any finish that had a negative effect on stabilized wood. Some oil finishes took longer to dry but that may have been due to other elements too.

There is really no need to put a finish on a stabilized call , I wet sand it and then use micro mesh , and then use plastic polish like nuveo

Spar urethane put on it directly will not dry. It needs a layer of shellac first.
