Jewelry Tree - Birthday gift for my wife
« on: September 02, 2016, 03:30:59 PM »
My wife is constantly losing her earrings and other jewelry. I had been trying to figure out a way to keep that stuff organized for her (the gorgeous walnut and leaded glass jewelry box I made for her 20 years ago was not getting it done  ) so I came up with this.

Figured walnut trunk. Walnut base. Of course turned on the lathe. Oil finished everything.

I hand cut the leaves from .015 brass, shaped and then hammered to have a 'leaf vein pattern'. Branches are 3/32" copper and the curley-cue earring hangers are 1/16" brass (what I use for pinning bands!). I silver soldered the branches and leaves together.

Funny part was that she's been fussing at me to 'get out of the shop and get in the house!' for the past few weeks while I've been making it. When she figured out that she's been yelling at me to basically stop working on her birthday present her eyes welled up and I got a big kiss!

There's a duck call in that block of wood. I just have to find it!

Neat idea!  I really like the hammered leaves.
