New Call-Cocobolo LA style
« on: April 29, 2016, 12:12:45 PM »
I've been gone for some time, and many of you who attempted to help me in the past are probably dreading reading this if your remember me :sweatdrop: ,but I've been working on my technique for a long time. I haven't been making duck calls for some time now, but I decided to go ahead make one yesterday. Just came over me.

If I remember right, this is a Louisiana style call (check me on that)

3/4" barrel bore. 1/2" exhaust bore.
Used a 1/2" acrylic dowel as the tone board. Cork stopper. Single reed.
Cocobolo call. It was made from two different pieces of wood, so the exhaust is darker than the barrel...
Full CA finish.
Compared to what I was making, I'm pretty proud of this one.
Let me know what you think. Feel free to tear it apart

A really nice call wood and finish very good. Not sure on the bore size since I do not make that style but a great looking call.

Looks good! I would like to offer a few suggestions. One is making the the through hole a straight 3/4 bore will require the user to use more air. Having made a few of these I found out the long way of it by making many then figuring out if I did a 3/4" for as deep as the insert needed then reduce it 5/8" and it sure saved the lungs. The tone board looks really long to me but that could be just the picture too how does it sound?

I think it sounds great, but in no pro. It has a nice rasp to it, but not too much. I have a sound file on my Instagram feed, but I think I deleted it off of my phone before I uploaded those pics... I've been told my calling needs some work, but I always get ducks in, so I'm not personally worried about it.
Thanks for the kind words y'all!
