Benny Floyd's Reelfoot insert tutorial
« on: April 08, 2016, 01:48:09 PM »

Benny asked me if I could get his process turned into a tutorial, and here it is.

You won't get money rich in this hobby.  The richness is in the culture, the craft, the friends you meet along the way, and being able to call in a wary game animal with a call that you made with your own hands.

Thanks for sharing Benny!  Another excellant call maker educates us on his method of making an insert.  See guys, your don't need a milling machine to make these calls.

Thanks Brian for helping with the tutorial.

Reelfoot, the original duck call. What's on your lanyard?

Thanks for posting it Brian. I continue to tweak the method a bit but it all comes out the same in the end. The holder for turning the stopper, I do not use now. I turned between centers for a while and now use a 4 jaw chuck to hold the exhaust end and a live center to turn the stopper.

You can see this set up was made from scraps and the jig was the most costly but had help on it from a friend so did ok on it also.

Fred is correct you do not have to have a milling machine to make these calls. Maybe this will perk some more up in learning to make them.

Great tutorial Benny, thanks to both Brian and you for sharing. :2up:
Of all the things I've lost while call making...its my mind I miss the most.
"A stupid man's report of what a clever man says is never accurate because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand.
