Latest Duck call
« on: July 31, 2015, 10:29:53 PM »
Playing around with shapes and I think I'm settling in.  Just a little adust mentioned to the lip and a little at the end of the insert and I think I will be happy...for a little bit.

A piece of mulberry with a knot.  The knot disappeared down the dust collector while spinning.  I haven't rescued a piece of wood in a while, so this one got saved.  Filled with sawdust and CA.  A quick trip through some velvet oil and it'seems done enough for now.

Looks good Jon, the knot hole really sets it off. I still have a couple pieces of that mulberry burl I got from you, It makes some good sounding calls!

Looks nice....the shape reminds me of a Gander Mountian (not saying anything bad just popped into my head is all)

Gander Mountain has their own calls?
Ours quit carrying a lot of waterfowl stuff a few years ago, I haven't bothered to look in the case in a long time.
Off to Google to look.  Every time I think I'm creeping up on a shape I think I can call mine I (or someone else) realizes it looks like someone elses.
Years ago I made a pretty good copy of a lynch mob without knowing they existed.
The "new" design before this was pegged as a molt gear.
It's all good though, I enjoy playing with the shape and finding a new twist on things.
Lewis,
I still have a bunch of that Mulberry burl sitting in the shop wanting to be duck and goose calls.
If I can make it through photo bucket again I will post a couple nice pics .

That is some nice looking mullbery Jon! Do you happen to have any more of it laying around? Reason I ask is not many people chop up mullbery anymore.

Oh now I get it Stump!
I had the chance to blow a Gander Valley homewrecker last week.   I see the resemblance now.
Reminds me how I used to sign my calls JR Calls.
First initial, Last initial.  Easy peasy.  Until I looked up JR Calls on google.  Someone is already making turkey calls under that name.
I'm truly in awe when people surprise me with something new.  It's hard to do.
