Beer Tapper materials

Question here:  Have any of you ever turned a beer tapper handle.  If so, what size female threaded insert did you use?  What is the universal size?  I have a pastor, that homebrews (I know, best pastor ever), and is having a milestone event soon.  I would love to turn him a tapper handle and then have it engraved with his brew name on it.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer up.

I made a few for a buddy.  I used these.  http://www.rockler.com/steel-threaded-inserts-select-size.

I used copper pipe for the ferrule.
