Nice looking stain job. I have a bunch of maple that i have been wondering what to stain it with. Did you heat it up after you put on the ferric nitrate? What did you finish with?

Brad: I paint on the ferric nitrate stain  and then hit it with a heat gun until you see the color change. You can repeat the process to get the color you want. The stain will raise the grain so you have to sand that back.
I used "Tru Oil" over the stain. Apply the number of coats required to seal and finish the particular piece of wood you are working with. I apply a couple coats them when dry cut it back with micro mesh 600 grit. Repeat as required.  With Tru Oil  it helps to thin the final coat if the oil is thick, seems to help it dry a little slower and level out better.

Thanks guys!
I get the ferric nitrate from the "Science Company" and mix it 5 (H2O)  X 1 by volume with distilled water from Walmart.
