Duck Call Pinewood Derby Car

I teach the Royal Ambassadors at our church.  Royal Ambassadors consist of boys in 1st thru 6th grade and we learn about missionaries and the like.  We're going to the statewide campout this weekend where the big event is a pinewood derby race.  Well, my son decided he wanted to make a duck call pinewood derby car.  So, we got in the shop and here's what we came up with.  This is by far the biggest duck call I've ever made!  LOL  The original idea was to have the call make a duck noise as it ran down the track.  But, there isn't much air pressure flowing through the call and I couldn't get it to make a sound.  But, it still looks like a duck call and he was ok with that.  This was a true father/son project with him doing about 75% of the work.  Don't know if he'll win or not but it was fun making it.  And I'm pretty sure he'll hang onto this car forever.  Good memories made with this project.

Now that is one cool derby car right there!!  :2up: :2up:  That is a very nice turning!!  The Lad has a future in making calls if he decides to go down that path for sure. It's about time we get some 2nd generation call makers!!  :2up: :2up:

Thanks for the compliments, guys!  I let my son read your comments and I could tell y'all made him feel proud. 

An update on the car.  It finished 6th place out of all the other 5th graders in the state.  Not too shaby performance.  And it also took 2nd place in the "Most Unusual" category and 2nd place in "Best Design."  So we brought home some hardware for our efforts.  Which is always nice!

Not sure how I missed this but I feel compelled to tell you that it is one of the coolest things I have seen in a long time and I thoroughly enjoyed the story. I can't wait until my little monster is old enough to build a derby car.
