sound check
« on: March 24, 2015, 01:30:32 PM »
Well... I will post the clip at the bottom.  I have my issues with this caller but..  I wanted to see what folks thought of it.

This was the best striker, made by me, on this pot.  Other folks strikers sounded better.  I think I need to make the striker a little heavier.  Its purple heart with a soft maple topper.  Maybe a little bit denser dowel too.  Id like to find some dymondwood dowels but they seem to be gone from the face of the planet.

Not really photo worthy.  Its just a tester call.  Through to Woodturners finish on it.

I too would like more rasp, Mike.  Your Dymondwood striker was my favorite on this caller.  But I wanted to play it with a striker I made.

I am low on supplies for strikers.  I really want to get my hands on some dymondwood dowels but they are few and far between from what I can tell.

I like the sound! To me, that's how a 3.5" slate should sound.

Try a smidge more center on the pot. You are really up on the edge in the video. I agree with you, if you added just a little more weight to the head, you could get where you want to be.

Good stuff. Its HARD to have good audio recording on a call.

Thank you fellas.

Recording in my dining room is probably not the best option but... its 25 degrees outside!

Thank you!

Whole new pot and striker on this go around.  I am proud of this one.  Not cause I think it sounds amazing but... The changes I made resulted in the changes in sound I wanted to happen!  That means I understand some things and am a big step closer to where I want it to be.

I left out my awesome hands on this one. Again recording in my dining room because its snowing and raining outside.

Thank you, Vince.  I took a step backwards on my most recent one.  I think I measured something wrong.  The real mistake was I changed too many things at once and now I am not sure what the culprit is.  While I was turning it, I told myself: "Self.... Your changing too many things at once here.  If something does not work out your not going to know why."  I rolled the dice though and now I am staring at a couple of beady eyes.  I got a conference call in a few minutes or I would make a sound clip.  I will try to get one later.
