2x4 Bowl
« on: March 18, 2015, 11:17:55 PM »
Got a 6" Jet Jointer yesterday so I decided to use it on some 2x4's. Jointed both sides of all 9 boards and glued them last night. Got a 13" x 3" bowl from them. Left it a little thick so it wouldn't break......

Not sure why one pic is bigger then the other...
Finished with Tried and True Original.

Pretty sure I have never seen a bowl made of construction lumber, very cool!

Thanks, Joe! I saw a couple videos on you tube where they used big pine or fir beams. It looked really cool so I thought I'd try it....

That's pretty slick David.  I like it!  Make sure you are using a bowl gouge and not a spindle gouge when you turn any bowls.  Don't ask how I know.
And always try and use a tailstock for as long as you can to provide support.  I had a bowl fly off and do a burn out on my hand one time.  Not a good thing.

Be safe, and have fun!

Ouch! Bet that hurt! I've got a couple bowl gouges that i use. 5/8 for most stuff and I use the 3/8 for getting the dovetail on the tennon or inside tenon (I am having a brainfsrt and can't think of what it's called) Even taking super light cuts it tore out bad, but pine is soft enouhave sanding isn't to bad.
