At first glance it actually looked like some ebony that I have at home.  Macassar ebony I think it is.  Then I researched claves which it likely what those were and they are typically made of ebony so I think thats a safe bet!

On SECOND thought Genadilla is also a very common wood used for them and I google imaged it and I would say thats your wood!

Did it have sort of a spicy smell when you turned it?  My guess is that it is coco, the smell will confirm it.

I don't know  I was wearing my respirator and it has the super fine smell catching filters on it. Next time I cut it I won't wear it and see.

I'll take a pic when I'm home but 95 percent sure on Macassar ebony. It's commonly used for those and I have a piece I just turned. LOOKS just like that!
