Grandkids new checkerboard
« on: December 30, 2014, 07:34:30 AM »
Probably one of my nicest projects ever. The 2 older Grandkids liked it. The younger Grandson looked at it & grabbed his trains. lol

The only thing missing in this pic is the gold finished lid support. It really stands out against all that blue. LOL

Thanks for looking!!
RIP Russ,Blaine,& Darrell!!

Thanks for all the kind words guys. They really do mean a lot to me as I see your creations here on a daily basis. Most of which amaze me even more than the last. You guys are all very gifted at call making.

jcz-- I've made a couple of these over the years now & if you are open to any suggestions I would like to say that once you rip your strips do not touch the fence on your table saw. It will never go back exact enough to rip the glue up into the same exact size you started with. I ripped all strips,, glued them together,, took the clamps off & just minutely trimmed one end square. You can do this with the fence still set @ 2" or whatever you are using. Then re -rip the blank. I also make 11 or 12 strips rather than 8. This allows me to pick & choose the final 8. You already know the 1st squaring strip is a wasted strip. Show us some pics when you get yours made!!

Braz-- I hope they appreciate this as much as you would have when you were their age. Hope you are doing well my Friend!!
RIP Russ,Blaine,& Darrell!!

Very nice work! I also made a board for Christmas, I'll make a separate thread for it. Quite a nice way of expanding one's skill set.
