First Knife
« on: November 12, 2014, 10:22:29 PM »
Just finished my first knife.  The scales are cocobolo and I rubbed two coats of boiled linseed oil on them to give them a "warm" look and feel.  Can I let that set overnight then finish it with Tru-Oil?  Will the BLO be a decent finish all on its own?

Nice work!
BLO can take some time to completely dry. On most woods, I personally wait between 48-72hrs... on Cocobolo I'm not sure I'd try to use Tru Oil without a good acetone wipe down (negating the BLO) as the hardened film will likely separate over time due to the natural oil in the wood.
