For what it's worth, Vince, carbide cannot obtain as fine an edge as HSS. For parting and strictly tenon-type work, it takes a whole lot of use to wear that HSS edge down. That being said, there's no chance I would ever buy one but your money is your money. It's hard for me to imagine buying a tool with such a limited range of capabilities for such an exorbitant price. If I just "had to have one," I'd buy an insert, make the tool from square steel stock, and save myself about $80.
