First predator call!!
« on: August 22, 2014, 09:25:16 AM »
Here's my first predator call! Made from hedge with one of Al's open reed toneboards. It sounds like, well, like something is dying! lol Does anyone have a video or something showing how to use these things? All I know is to stick it in my mouth and start blowing! (I can kinda make sounds but I don't think they are the right sounds)

I'm not sure if I really like the shape, I tried to make it different then anyone else's (Sorry if this looks like yours) It has a Velvit oil finish.
Thanks for lookin'!

David

Hey that looks just like mine......  :hysterical:

I have no experience predator hunting so I've only made a few of these calls. Gave a couple to a co-worker that does predator hunting. Told him he could have the calls for free just for some feed back. Also told him I'd like to tag along with him some time.

Still waiting for that invite.  :whistling:

David, you are in the land of great coyote hunting.  The open Reed works pretty simple.  Your teeth or your lip apply some pressure to the reed while you whale into the call.  You vary the air pressure your blowing into the call.  That's the basics.  You can change pitches by where you place your teeth or lips on the Reed.  Also how much pressure you put on the Reed will change the pitch.

That video helped a bunch. Turns out I don't sound that bad!  :punk: Now I just have to convince my dad to take me out to a place with coyotes! Haven't shot the .243 since last year!!  :thanks:
