All sizes of Reelfoots
« on: August 23, 2014, 06:01:18 PM »
Since we have been discussing the small bore calls I thought you might like to see the different sizes of Reelfoot calls that I make:

The call on the left is a full size Reelfoot call. The middle call is my 5/8" bore call with a 3 and 3/4 inch east India rosewood barrel.  I also make this size with a full 3/4" bore.  The call on the right is a "hideout" size Reelfoot in case you don't want to be caught "carrying".  The "hideout" is a full 3/4 inch bore Reelfoot with a 3 inch kingwood and faux ivory 6 side barrel.  The "hideout" has  the full range of Reelfoot sounds .

Reelfoot, the original duck call. What's on your lanyard?

Thanks, Fred.  Is the tone channel length the same in the hideout, or shorter?

Standard length insert with a short barrel only.  You can touch the end of the insert with your tongue if you try hard. The short barrel seems to sound just fine with the standard insert.

Very cool.  I like the small bores and still plan to make a few... but I have to admit that the 3/4" bore and insert have grown on me and anything else just looks "skinny" to me now.

I have made the 5/8, 3/4 and 7/8 bores and I much perfer the 3/4 for the consistant sound quality.  The old makers got it right!

I agree with Fred that the 3/4 bore calls have their own sound that cannot be made  with the other bore calls although the other calls sound very good just not the real reelfoot sound though.
