plain ol buckeye burl
« on: July 21, 2014, 09:39:46 PM »
Another one I made along with the blue buckeye burl last week. Got delivered today so I can show it off now. The blank came a little shy of 1.5" square, so I had to make a condensed version of my barrel. I kind of liked the smaller size barrel though when I was done. Stabilized buckeye burl with a gabon ebony insert. CA finish. I do not like turning the gabon ebony and probably will not ever make another insert out of it. Brittle stuff. Sounds great, but I would rather use ABW. I've got two more to show off later this week after I hand deliver them to Mac Dietrich and Andrew Hadden on Wednesday. Gonna have a little get together and talk shop for a little before I continue my cross country move to Virginia. Really looking forward to meeting up with these guys. Thanks for looking!

Tyson, very well done.  It's cool that your stopping in on some fellow call makers on your trip across country. Best part of that is your destination; which put's you only a couple hours from me!  It's been good talking to you behind the scenes. Look forward to meeting you in person and doing some trading of our own.

Safe travels and have fun with it!

Jeff

Jeff, I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to it. I absolutely love meeting fellow call makers and swapping stories. For me, this is what call making is all about. I don't collect RNT's, Echo's, JJ Lares or anything like that. I'll never buy a call. But if a guy wants to trade me a call for one of mine, I'm more than happy to do so. That is what my collection consist of. I think it gives more meaning to the call. I'd love to be able to say one day when someone looks at the collection of calls on my shelf that I personally met each and everyone of the call makers and shared some time with them. For me that is what this whole thing is all about. I look forward to meeting you brother.

Great looking call.  Sounds like your trip is going to be a call maker"s dream come true.  I love the philosophy of the no buy but trade call and all you said about it.

Be safe and enjoy.

Ahaha! You wouldn't catch me wearing those unless I was snow goose hunting maybe. Andrew what if my Sperry's were camo? Would that be more acceptable!?

Sorry Tyson, I have a strict no sperry's and no plaid rule.  My wife doesn't adhere to these rules, but that doesn't make them any less valid lol
