Novus 3 heavy scratch remover?
« on: May 25, 2014, 05:40:48 PM »
Have you guys ever used Novus 3 heavy scratch remover prior to using Novus 2 fine scratch remover or Hut plastic polish?  I have some Novus 2 and on most acrylics to get a perfect scratch-free finish you still have to wet sand to at least 1500 grit...Especially on black acrylic because it shows every imperfection.  I'm wondering if doing a two step polish with Novus 3 and then Novus 2 (or Hut) would allow me to stop wet sanding at 1200 or maybe even 800.  I can sure polish faster than I can sand.  I'm doing some CNC'd whistles lately and find myself wet sanding a lot of acrylic.  Doing solid colors, so flame polishing isn't an option.

Would appreciate input from anybody that has tried Novus 3.

Never used it before but it would be helpful if it worked because sanding acrylic takes FOREVER!!!!

I know this is an old post, just wanted to say that I'm going to give clear/transparent acrylics a try somewhat soon, and also planning on trying to use Novus 2 and 3.  I'll let you know how it works out on them and what my process is.

Aaron, why can you not flame polish a solid color?

No personal experience, but I've been told by Wade, Stump and others that it does not work at all.

Huh. Craziness. Glad I have not bought a torch for it yet!

It will bubble before it smooths out, and that's the kiss of death with acrylic. I tried it, I failed, and I sold the torch and went back to wet sanding and a polisher.
