"Worlds" (and what I made) VERY pic heavy*
« on: May 07, 2014, 09:34:26 PM »
Well, I'm sure most everybody has noticed I have not been around the forum lately... that is because I have been slaving to finish my carvings for this past April's "World" carving competition. I will have more to say after finals, but for now, here are some pictures of my pieces (a smoothie king eider and a green winged teal decorative). I place best in show with the eider! It was my most challenging piece thus far. ~Andre'

Awesome!
How many hours of painting is in just the eider?  I would guess there were some late nights involved.

Thank you everybody! I feel slightly self conscious because these pictures (besides the first two) are using a flash and that makes the paint look so much messier as well as screws up the colors. Whenever I get iphoto uncrashed I will put up some better ones.

@Jon- I sense you can relate to the feeling of no time and rushing to get a clean paint job? :hysterical: I painted for at least a solid week into the wee hrs of the night (3:30am was typical). I pretty much swore I'd never touch a d@&* brush for at least 6 months... but I painted the day after I got home :1eye: I grew some pretty large calluses on my fingertips after it was all over with. ~Andre'

My wifes uncle used to carve decoys back in the day(80's). The first one he entered in a N.C. carving contest he came in second. He didnt know you had to float the dekes in this contest and had painted some of it with india ink and it ran all in the float tank. He took a retainer of 20 grand a yr from a very rich collector and sold all  the calls to him that he wanted first and then to anyone else. Nothing he did compares to what you did on these two decoys. I had never paid any attention to your age as long as I've been on the forum, but if you can do this at 18, what will you be at 25? Incredible talent and amazing work. Well deserved awards. congrats. If these are bad pics, cant wait to see the good ones. Do you give lessons?

First of all unbelievable job!!! They are just awesome.  Second, you are making me a nervous wreak holding them with just one hand.  If I could carve and paint something that nice an NFL player couldn't get it out of my grip.  Every time you post pictures like these I am just amazed.  Keep up the great work.
