Band saw is the best bang for your buck. It is more versatile,, will do the same work as the scroll saw,,  & can re-saw logs into blanks.

Definitely band saw. Scroll saws are vibrating hobby machines.

how nice of a band saw do I have to buy to b able to cut blanks out of logs.  I use a lot of hedge and some is rock hard, I wasn't aware a band saw could cut it that good.

Keep your eyes on CL for some old iron as you can probably find a better deal than buying new. You'll likely be happiest with 14" or larger, and look for 1-1/2hp or more.  Table top bandsaws are very limiting, in my experience.

I couldn't find an old one when I was searching, and ended up buying the Rikon 14" 10-325.  I've been very happy with it.  It seems to go on sale various places evedy few months for about $700 or so.

Once you get the saw be sure to get some good blades! Makes all the difference in the world sawing out blanks.
