open reed tone board
« on: December 22, 2013, 09:30:39 AM »
My first call I want to attempt is an open reed cow call. I guess my questions are for anyone that has made one are there a particular shape that sounds the best? What is the best air channel size to start with? What is good width for the mylar reed? Is there a tone board from another call that can be modified? Sorry for all the questions I only use diaphragm calls as of now but would like to try an open hince my choice in first call. Thank you for the help in advance.

They are like open reed predator calls, some people like a narrow reed, and some want a wide reed.  Reese Outdoors sells an open reed predator board that works pretty good as an elk call.
