New local carving club!
« on: December 18, 2013, 12:33:13 AM »
:san4:  Man oh man!  Had a pretty nice time tonight meeting a few new guys that have formed a new carving club 25 minutes east of where I live.

One of the guys is a pretty darn accomplished waterfowl decoy carver.  I'm not sure what all awards he has won, but he's been doing it for quite a while, and his work is POLISHED.

I'm looking forward to seeing what I can learn from these guys, and how they push me to add carving and wood burning into my call making work more.  And it should help me get my 3.0 half strut turkey decoy done prior to the spring season!

One meeting a month to meet and shoot the bull and carved a little for 2 hours.  No fees, no requirements.

Are going to go big time on us???  Maybe the next Michelangelo of the callmaking community?  Will you remember us when you are in the New York Museum of Fine Art?

Sorry could not resist that.  Best of luck in your quest for that ultimate turkey decoy, it is out there in some chunk of wood, just waiting for you to find it.

Sounds fun to me. Do you know the name of the decoy carver? I can think of 2 world champs that do annual meets: Jack Cox and Vic Kirkman. ~Andre'

His name is Steve Holt.  I don't know where he is at in the awards world.  He is a very humble (and helpful) person from what I have talked with him so far.

Your carving has always been a WOW to me.  Your first turkey decoy was a WOW and half, and I know your next will be better.  Never knowing when to stop trying to improve is one of your best qualities.
