Some shoe stores, or places that sell work boots have leather shoe strings that may work.  But my guess is that they won't be long enough for what you are wanting to do.

You won't get money rich in this hobby.  The richness is in the culture, the craft, the friends you meet along the way, and being able to call in a wary game animal with a call that you made with your own hands.

You might try Tandy leather, they have rolls that are quite long.

To braid with leather I found that using kangaroo lace with a filler in the middle to be the best.  I do a round braid using 5 strands.  Check with Hide Crafters leather store in Ft Worth or any Tandy Leather store.  It can be done using a 4 strand round braid, but for looks the 5 strands really do set it off.  Regular cowhide lace can also be used but it is not as soft and supple as the kangaroo.  Both places have some good books on leather braiding but if I remember correctly you will find the best prices on the books at Amazon, a lot of wannabe braiders sell the books after very little use and they land up on Amazon.

Look for a book called "Leather Braiding" by B. Grant, I think that is the one I use for my refreshers in braiding.  You might try to use a 4 strand braid with a center core to get what you are looking for.  Not much real difference between 4 and 5 strand, your fingers will just get tied into knots faster with 5 strands.
