What is/are a good skinning knife blank with a gut hook?

Try Texas knifemakers supply. Pages 3 and 5 have gut hook blades. Cryo treatment is probably worth the extra cost.

Brian, I have used blanks from Texasknife before. They have all been good. Look at the size and shape of the blades. Pick out the size you feel will be right for you. I personally like a smaller blade so I got a smaller blank. While you are ordering get yourself some of the mosaic pins to use on the bands of some calls.  :2:

Have you made a knife kit before?  If no pick up a kit with instructions, if yes, then go with the best blank you can afford. 

If you haven't made one, look on eBay for Green River Knife kits.  They are decent knife kits, carbon steel blades, CHEAP and a good way to learn how to put handles on knife blanks.  We have made quite a few in deer camp as a way to keep the "newbies" busy and occupied during the midday breaks.  I have some on the ranch kitchen that are 20 years or older.
