Now THAT is really cool! Do you have any problems with the pith when turning a limb like that? I always hear you HAVE to remove the pith.

Well if its in the center I drilled a 1 inch hole all the way thru before turning. Thats where the pepper goes

That is really nice. I like how you show the "find" before the turning. Very cool. Please tell us what the final size is. Or put it next to something for comparison. It looks pretty large, but I'm not really sure.

yes the pith is the center and yes if you don't "turn the pith out of it"  the piece will crack, but he took care of that by drilling it out. nice job!

i learned about the pith as well over time. I found that should you drill ut the center, UNDERSIZED" fo your final hole, the wood will dry or seson better without cracking. Judgung by the shoes in the first picture, the blank was close to 4 inches in diameter. ALWAYS fun to first turn on the athe with....LOL
