blue wing teal call
« on: August 26, 2013, 10:07:24 AM »
Anybody make there own tone boards for a Blue Wing Teal call. I know I can order the JC reeds and make one, but I'd like to make my own toneboard. Here's what I'm thinking, start with 1/2" toneboard, 3/16"- 1/4" tone channel. Shorten the toneboard up quite a bit, say maybe 1" total length and go from there. Any suggestions greatly appreciated thanks. Waylon.

You will have too do some digging, but the info is on here somewhere on how to make your own teal toneboard.  It has been a while, not sure when it was.

Waylon,
What are you planning on doing for a reed?  I use La tone boards for my calls.  What size tone channel?  That's the only call I didn't make on my lanyard.  I'm trying to make me the matching set.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I using .010 mylar for the reed. I tried .014 mylar and .005 stainless but neither sounded as good as the .010 mylar. The tone channel is 1/4". But I had to modify it sorta. Kinda filed the end of the toneboard to make a pass through tone channel. Here are a few pics. Like I said, it sounds decent, just not quite there yet.

TJ, I read somewhere that the JC reeds for the squirrel calls can be used for a teal call. I used one I got from All, bladed it pretty heavily and it sounded pretty good. I just wanted to try my hand at doing my own toneboard.

Any idea where to get the JC LVDR-005 reeds?  I only found them in bulk of 250.  Way more than I need..

Not sure if they are the same reed, but I got some of Al's squirrel calls and used them. You can get them here in the THO store. But like I said, not sure if its the same as the LVDR-005.

Waylon, this is off of the top of my head, I never kept notes on these.  But I think it is all in the size of the tonechannel and the reed.  A short and a mean dog eared reed with a smaller than 1/4" tonechannel and you will get closer.
