Open Reed Cow Elk Help
« on: August 20, 2013, 08:25:57 PM »
Hey guys I've been playing around with some cow elk calls here lately.  Ordered some bite reed sets from Al and made a few of those with pretty good luck.  I want to try to make an open reed call now.  I also have a predator open reed tone board bought from Al, and I have noticed that it can be manipulated to sound similar to a cow elk if blown near the very end of the reed.  A couple of questions.  Would a smaller tone channel help increase the pitch of the call to sound that of an elk?  Also, what is the best way to hold down reed?  Do you cut a very small notch in the back of the tone board to slide the reed back into and use a castration band to hold it down, kinda like the predator tone board?

Thanks in advance!
