barrel/tailpiece
« on: August 08, 2013, 08:36:43 PM »
Ok this maybe a crazy question, I have made a few duck calls some good an some not so good I really like the shorter barrel but my jig for toneboard an tailpiece is approx. 2 inches about a 1in. From mouth piece. Does it make a difference how far the toneboard goes into the call?or any suggetions?

The barrel length does make a difference  the length of the barrel affects the air presentation to the reed  a longer barrel for me makes the call harder to operate and not as responsive  but an extremely short barrel can be tricky too since the caller has to manipulate their mouth cavity to adjust their air presentation
You won't get money rich in this hobby.  The richness is in the culture, the craft, the friends you meet along the way, and being able to call in a wary game animal with a call that you made with your own hands.
