Back in the drink for 2013
« on: May 14, 2013, 01:27:58 PM »
Did a trial run last week (a big one) with cold water temps, and it was a major bust.  The biggest fish was 22 pounds, and the next one up from there MIGHT have been 12.  Check lines 4 mornings.  2 of those mornings were the worst I have ever had.

This late spring has pushed everything back a minimum of a week, probably more like 2.

Thankfully, it was good and warm yesterday, and it is even warmer (may see 90 today when I was seeing my breathe on the water mid-day last week?!) today.

I'll keep you all updated with progress.  We'll have about 95 hooks in the water by night fall.  I've got some great live baits caught.  I think the best I have ever had.  All green sunfish, all really nice sized.

We're going to set the same trees pretty much as last week.  So, the only things that we're changing is the water temp (about 12-14 degrees warmer) and a little nicer bait.

Wind is brutal. Don't have enough gas with it sloshing to finish out, so my partners are going to get some more gas whil I babysit the boat.

Noodling is illegal in Missouri Mac.  Very much frowned upon.  Game wardens come jumping out of the woods when ever you get to wrestling a big one out of a barrel around here.  Sneaky, stealthy, big, ugly game wardens.  :D

Catfishing in Missouri is a BIG deal, and catfish are held to a higher level in Missouri than a lot of other states.  Always has been, and hopefully always will be.  They are kind of their own category here.  Not held as high as like bass and crappie are as far as limits and methods, but no doubt higher than fish like carp and drum.

Seams odd that noodling is illegal but limb lines is not...I realize the implications of taking a fish outta a hole with potential eggs in it but around here all the guys just let the fish go. Limb lines seams more of a means to catch and eat the catfish and harm them rather than just let them swim. To each is own though and ya gotta follow state rules and regulations... However it is legal here and there's a season and I'm gonna try and get after a few this yr again!!!!

I sure don't have a problem with it being legal in other states.  It just all depends on the past and current culture of the folks in the state.

Finally found a nice one today.  Can't believe it took this long.  But, ties for my 4th biggest ever, so I'm pretty excited about it!  SUPER long sucker.  54 pounds.
