6 hrs shop time ='s 6 grunt tubes
« on: April 27, 2013, 08:18:34 PM »
Was able to commit 6 hrs of shop time and here's what I came up with front left to right. Hedge apple, stabilized green/yellow splated maple, cocobolo, stabilized purple/red maple burl, stabilized cross cut big leaf maple, and stabilized red spalted tamaric. All still have yet to be finished but ill finish them up tomorrow.

The purple/red maple is my favorite I think.

So how is the stabilized wood turning going on that new lathe?! :)

What all have you been using the reverse on?

Well been using the reverse just for sanding purposes it works great and will be really nice once I get my dust collector port installed. The stuff from Mel @ wood dynamics turns like butter...I've been turning about 2600 rpm and no problems...I'm a litte nervous to crank it up to 3600 and don't really see a need. Overall very happy with my new set up and would have never been able to turn and complete 6 grunters in 6 hrs the way my old set up was.

Putting the CA finishes on this morning and using the slow speed to apply then wet sand off is absolutely fantastic....my old lathe only slowed down to 500rpm I'm applying CA @ 150 now and wet sanding through the grits and the finish is simply like glass!!!
