Finally turned one for myself
« on: April 03, 2013, 12:58:29 AM »
I came to the realization that my customers have been getting my best work and I've been hunting with calls that were flawed in one way or another for the last couple years.  Just ain't right!!!  So last night I decided to take a one night break from customer orders and turned a nice call for my vest this season.  Dug through the woodpile for something nice and decided to use a piece that Steve with Reelseatblanks.com sent to me in the box with his turnathon donation.  Awesome piece of wood.  It is northern hard maple burl, sporting a Velvit oil finish.

Didn't have anything that would be a good match to make a striker from, so I opted for good sound over good looks.  The striker is a piece of curly purpleheart (the curl doesn't show up in the pic for some reason).

This call is set up with slate over glass.  Pretty sure I've never made a better sounding call.

Man, it's been ages since I've seen you post a pot call. Glad to see you've still got skills. Nice looking call!

Man that is a pretty caller!   You owe it to yourself for all the work you've been doing on orders though!

That's awesome.  Can't wait to see the next picture of it with a turkey.

Hey aaron,

Are you buffing your oil calls after you dip them.  Mine never seem to have that nice shine yours does.

Any suggestions.

 :2up: Nice work Aaron....
Of all the things I've lost while call making...its my mind I miss the most.
