Thanks for the comments and as I said it was different, now to try some other combination.

Square blank cut slots with table saw much like cutting a celtic knot on angle and fill slots with whatever wood you want, just a tennon on the end filled with purpleheart. Same for the stopper and same stopper drill 5/8 hole and glue in the tone board.

I'm amazed at how clean your holly looks! I did a glue up of holly and brown ebony a while back, and I remember how brown my holly looked after I got done sanding. Your call is perfect!
