When would you want to stabilize the wood and when should you just turn it as is?
Thanks

if the wood is soft say like persimon, most woods around our parts or if it is spalted, something that isn't very stable i guess you can say

Also, woods with odd and varying grain will turn a heck of a lot better after being stabilized.  Burls, crosscut woods, soft woods and spalted woods all benefit from being stabilized.  I often send very hard woods out for stabilizing just to make them more durable when it comes to water affecting them.
