3.0.......2013 custom jake turkey decoy (3/6/13 progress)
« on: December 27, 2012, 10:42:38 PM »
I was lucky enough to make it over to my buddy's house today, and talk him out of a big basswood log to help me start my 2013 turkey project, 3.0!

(And thanks to SANTA for giving me a dang Foredom rotary tool to have of my own!    )

This will be a custom wood carved half strut jake decoy.   :gitrdone:  Once I have this dude finished, I plan on only hunting over my own decoys.  (As long as I am not in a run and gun situation.    )

Here's one of the first pictures of 3.0, hanging out with his girlfriend, 2.0.

Here's the first rough draft......sitting on his 'neck' I guess.

Here, he's had his original sleeve (bark) removed, and is being cut in two.

Here's a look at the final cut. Beautiful wood inside that's going to be carved and painted over.  :stickman1: (I hate covering up nice wood!)

More to come soon!

So many comments come to mind when he is sitting with his girlfriend. Then even more when you get him undressed. :whistling:

But you proved a girl can break a man.

I drew my head and little of the shoulder in today.  The board is a little thin to use as the whole shoulder area, so I'm debating on whether to add thickness to the wood before cutting it, or making the shoulder area insert into the main body.  I'm thinking I better thicken my blank.

Can't wait to see how you deal with the knot!  Carve it? Drill and plug?
Loving it, keep us posted.

Didn't get much done today with all the other running around I had to do, but its a start.  I'll tape the two sides together and start removing a little wood next on the body.

I'm having a hard time getting interested in doing the head, so I may just get it fitted, and move forward with the body.

:turned:   :surrender:  No, I hate to say.  I've been working on calls more than I ever have in the past.  My shop time has not been spent on carving.

And, I'm scared to death to screw up the blank.   :surrender:  Its dumb, but its the truth.
