A couple acrylics
« on: December 23, 2012, 02:42:03 PM »
Finished these two calls up the other day. First is green pearl acrylic with black lines and the second is blue pearl acrylic, red band and white lines, going for the patriotic look on that one. This was my first time using one of Ron's bands and I love the way it turned out.

Thanks for looking and hope everyone has a great holiday

Corey

Nice work man!

It seems like your exhaust is a little longer on the green call?  What does that do for you?

Vince you are correct, the exhaust on the green call is longer and the barrel is slightly shorter, also has totally different internal bore dimensions.  In turn this puts the guts closer to the mouth end of the call and the longer insert creates more built in back pressure, making the call easier to use. This model of my calls is very popular with beginning callers as it is less dependent on correct hand position.

Cool man. Neat to have two completely different designs like that.

I would like my boys to blow goose calls, but the both have asthma, so their amount of breathe available to work with is really low. I guess I should play with something like this for them.

Thanks guys for the compliments. I actually got 4 different short reed designs. I really enjoy messing with goose calls.

Vince, I run a 5/8" bore in all my short reed inserts and then flare them out at the end. What I did was make a long insert and then cut it down a little try it and cut it down a bit more and try it till I got what I wanted with the barrel bore. The green call runs extremely easy with very little air. I use the SR-1s in it and take off the tangs in the back and do some other modifications to it.

CScallmaker, I just dap the paint in the grooves that I have turned with my finger tip and then wipe the excess off the call with my finger, leaving the paint only in the turned groove. Can be messy but its the easiest way I have found to do it.

Do you run the SR-1's in both calls?

Just use some acrylic paint and put a small amount on your finger and fill the lines, allow it to try a for a little bit and put back on the lathe and polish.

I use the SR-1s in the call style with the longer insert and I use shell creek guts in the other shorter insert call
