The last couple evenings' work
« on: November 05, 2012, 01:03:18 AM »
I'm keeping up a one call per night pace trying to get orders filled.  Last night I decided to take advantage of the daylight savings time change and I stayed in the shop for a couple extra hours and made a couple calls for myself after finishing a customer call.  Hadn't done that in a very long time and it was fun.  Ended up staying down there well past 2am, which was actually 3am with the time change.     This morning came very early thanks to the kids.

Here's a customer call.  It is stabilized spalted maple burl with an oil finish.

Here's a whistle that I made for myself.  It is spalted maple burl, stabilized with an oil finish.

I've got an osage orange single reed duck call that is my go-to call, but I've been wanting to turn a double reed.  This one has a clear barrel, one of Ron's gray bands and a gray Corian insert.  I really hate turning clear acrylic but it came out good.

Aaron great looking calls.  :2up: I give you props on the corian insert. Quick question do you do anything with the cork notch area to protect it from snapping? I know I had it happen twice while I was playing with some corian once it rolled off the work bench and secondly when I put the cork in. I know the second one I could have prevented.

Great job! I love me them whistles :punk: That acrylic call looks awesome, I really like the gun metal finished band with the corian... it ties the clear acrylic with the insert very nicely  Makes me want to make some calls for myself again... :innocent: ~Andre'

As always Beautiful calls Amigo!!! I worked a group of Pintails "Your Whistle" weekend before last on the youth hunt and brought them right down the pipe.. My son got his first duck in flight feet down over the blocks and it was a pintail..

Aaron you have great products with nice results!! I always look forward to seeing your calls!!!

Aaron,

Those are some great looking calls! It sure is nice that you were able to find some time for yourself, even if it means staying in the shop until 2-3AM.

It can be a little brittle.  I broke the first one I ever made, but haven't broken any since.  I'm super cautious about making sure that I don't fit the cork as tight as I would on other materials....But still tight enough to work like it should.  Took me 3 corks to get it right on this one.

Thanks for all the compliments guys!
