8-sided turkey call
« on: January 17, 2008, 09:24:01 PM »
;D  I thought I'd be the first to post in this section since it has not been opened up yet.

Nothing too exciting to share.  This is a display turkey call I made I think last spring that was sold on auction on another website to benefit youth and disabled hunters.  It was my highest auctioned call yet.  The glass is a mirror and I have etched away the bottom to create the turkey foot.  With a light reflection, the footprint looks black, and with a light reflection, the footprint looks white.

Sorry is doesn't show the wood more.  The flash was giving me fits.  Its spalted ash.

This call was definately not turned on a lathe.  None of my turkey calls are.  They all sport the 8-sided look.

Wow, great looking call. You will have to enlighten us on how that one is done. I promise not to copy, just want to know.

No big secret Braz.  I just remove the mirroring (on the bottom side) with a Dremel tool.  It gets touchy around the edges of your artwork (wanting to chip away) but it can be done pretty easily with a steady hand and a slow-go.  (You can see in the photo, I'm not perfect at it.)

Thanks for the kind words guys!   ;)  I have honestly never had too many call makers take an interest in looking at my stuff, so the comments are sure appreciated.  Thank you.

Here's another one with a different kind of design in the glass.  Same kind of wood (just dyed green) and same kind of glass.  I wish I had the ability to take more professional photos.

;)  Thanks BT.  Glad you like them.  Seems that I'll be making a couple more of these display calls this winter.  Got a couple people interested in them for their desks at work.

;)  Thanks.  Been a couple years since I made one like this, and that green one was the last one.  They're a little over-sized, but that's the size of glass I can get for them.  I've made about 25 of them, and my first glass calls were like these, but scratched up for use.  I've got the original one that three turkeys have been laid to rest with.   ;D

I'll be sure to post pictures when I make new ones this winter.
